Domestic violence is no longer a private issue. On the contrary, it regularly involves criminal offences such as bodily injury or deprivation of the personal freedom. The police are obliged to start criminal proceedings in each case, irrespective of your wishes. In order to do so, the police will always look for traces, interview witnesses and take evidence. They will hand you a “documentation about the police intervention in cases of domestic violence” to facilitate filing a protection order under the Civil Code.
